The Farcimar Group constructed the Noise Barriers in the Carvalhos / Santo Ovídeo stretch of the A1 Motorway, with Panels in Porous Concrete, for Brisa - Concessão Rodóviária, S.A.
The work contract included the design / execution of approximately 25,000m2 of Noise Barriers in the context of the A1 Motorway expansion, in the Carvalhos / Santo Ovídeo Stretch.
In order to comply with the specifications, Noise Barrier Panels in Porous Concrete were used, with a sound insulation index equal to or greater than 26 dB (in accordance with NP EN 20140-3: 1998) and sound absorption in the frequency range between 125HZ and 4000HZ, with an octave bandwidth equal to or less than 0.6 (in accordance with EN ISO 20354: 1993). Precast concrete pillars were used as a mounting framework structure.
Relative to the reinforced concrete walls, the application of Self-supporting Noise Barrier Panels was opted for. These elements do not require the application of pillars up to a height of 3m.
It is also worth mentioning that approximately 1,870m2 of Noise Barrier Panels with the unique feature of having absorption characteristics on both sides (Double Absorbent Panels) were applied.
Transparent Noise Barrier Panels were also installed, interspersed with the Concrete Panels, in order to reduce the visual impact for both the motorway users and those benifitting from the Noise Barriers.
The management and execution of the work, whose main tasks included the inslallation of the prefabricated elements, was the responsibility of Arouconstroi, S.A.,with all the Prefabricated Concrete Elements having been supplied by Farcimar, S.A.
